Thousands of contestants started the race with lots of expectations but only six made it to the finishing line. The power was then left in the hands of the viewers to choose the head that will wear the crown of the 9th Season though their votes.
With bated breaths, the studio audience patiently waited for the hosts- Joseph Benjamin and Bolanle Olukanni to announce the winners and runners-up at the Closing Gala show which was held on Sep. 24 2016 at Ultima studios. The hosts kept everyone at the edge of their seats as they made ‘exaggerated effort’ to open the envelopes containing the results which were as follows:
6th position: Winner Egbo.
5th position- Dapo Arogundade
3rd runner-up: Pere Davies
2nd runner-up: Kitay Okotete
1st runner-up: Elizabeth Emoruwa
WINNER: Okiemute Ighorodje
Just before the big reveal, the show recorded outstanding performances from the Academy voice coach- Ms. Ige, choreography by Lovette Dance Bits company (led by the Academy choreographer Lovette Otegbola), and the Super Six who repeated some of their best performances in the season, as decided by the viewers.
Also adding colour to the evening was urban highlife artiste- Adekunle Gold’s performance. He graced the stage to thrill everyone with his hit song ‘Ariwo ko’.
Even though there was one crowned winner, yet none of the six finalists went home empty handed and this is another attribute that stands Project Fame out from the rest. Winner went home with N500,000, Dapo- N1 Million, Pere- N2 Million, Kitay- N2 Million and a mid-size saloon car, Elizabeth- N3 Million and a brand new saloon car.
The winner of MTN Project Fame West Africa Season 9, Okiemute wins N5 Million, a brand new SUV, and a recording contract worth millions of Naira!
We congratulate all of them and we wish them the best as they move on in the pursuit of their music careers.
